CHICAGO (Jan. 7)—The Chicago Federation of Labor (CFL) is pleased to announce that applications for the 2016 William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship are now available.
Five academic-based scholarships and five random-drawing scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each will be awarded to high school seniors who will be graduating in the spring of 2016.
“The Lee scholarship program is one of the benefits our members enjoy when their local is affiliated with the CFL,” said SMART-TD Illinois Legislative Director Robert W. Guy. “These scholarships are just another example of organized labor assisting their members and the families that they support.”
The applicant or his/her parent must be a member in good standing with a union affiliated with the Chicago Federation of labor. All applications must be signed by one of the top officers of
the member’s local union.
Details of the application process can be found at the CFL’s homepage at www.chicagolabor.org. From there you can click on “Union Resources” to find more information about the Lee Scholarship program and to download the application.
The application deadline is Tuesday, March 1, 2016.
Please remember that when applying for a scholarship you must choose to enter either the Academic Competition or the Random Drawing. Applicants trying to enter both categories will
be disqualified.
“With the ever-increasing cost of higher education a Lee Scholarship can really help lighten the overall burden of college tuition,” Guy said, “and it’s a benefit that the CFL is proud to offer.”
